Going gluten-free sounds like a daunting prospect and in many ways it is, but hopefully the information below will give you a starting point for gluten-free eating in Ocala. And just to clarify, we’re not going for perfect here…we’re doing baby steps, so this still includes processed foods that aren’t necessarily healthier…just gluten-free.

If you’re curious what all the gluten-free fuss is all about, here is some great information…

Where to SHOP?

PUBLIX | One of the things I LOVE about Publix is their labels. You may not even notice them, but if you’re searching they are wonderful.
The tag you will be hunting for looks like this

You’ll find these items mixed in all over the store and sometimes you’ll be lucky and find a section with organic food and they’ll be grouped together.

You can also find a printed list at the front of the store (where all the coupon booklets are) that you can take with you.
You can find more information here…

EARTH ORIGINS | (in the Ocala Shopping Center on Silver Springs Blvd)
This one is a no-brainer, they advertise over 3,000 items that are gluten free and have a great staff to answer questions.

TRADER JOES | (3724 SW Archer Rd Gainesville, FL 32608) *this is located in Gainesville, but is right off the first exit and definitely worth listing
They carry their own brand of gluten free flour and a lot of gluten free products that are hard to find in Ocala at a reasonable price. This store has quickly become one of my favorites, but be sure to bring a cooler with you to bring home your goodies.

SARAFAY FARM is a healthy alternative bakery that focuses on special diet restrictions, and allergy’s to food. They carry a full line of Gluten-Free products including an amazing Sandwich Bread !!

They also have a flour blend that is soy-free. This is a big deal for nursing mothers.

Located at the Ocala Farm Market every Saturday 9am-2pm.

SaraFay Farm @ the Ocala Farmers Market sells the biggest variety of GF baked goods probably in central FL! She also does vegan, paleo, and others. I’m surprised this article didn’t mention her.

A Taste of Everywhere (downtown Ocala) caters to your gluten free needs. The owner will make anything gluten free if you ask. Her gluten free breads are also wonderful!
